Music director Met Yannick Nézet-Séguin will direct the opera adaptation of Charles M. Blow's novel Terence Blanchard, composer, jazz musician and Grammy Award winner. For the first time in its history, Met will present an opera by an African-American composer. The libretto was written by film director Kasi Lemmons. The work is a painful probe into the life of a young man who is trying to overcome the current traumas and obstacles. James Robinson and Camille A. Brown, who recently collaborated on the operas Porgy and Bess, also co-direct. The young talented baritone Will Liverman will play Charles and his stage partners will be the popular Angel Blue in the roles of Fate / Solitude / Greta and Latonia Moore in the role of Billie. You can look forward to a live broadcast on October 23, 2021.
